The Claude Arrieu award

Claude Arrieu was born on October 30, 1903, and died on March 7, 1990, in Paris. She was a French composer who joined Sacem on April 16, 1929. In 1938, she received the Sacem Mesureur Award. Twenty years later, she was awarded the Joubert Prize, and in 1961, the Enoch Award.

On October 29, 1986, she wrote her will, appointing the Comité du coeur as the sole beneficiary of the royalties that would be credited to her account. As part of her last wishes, she requested the creation of an award bearing her name to honour a young composer of symphonic music.

The Claude Arrieu Award is presented every two years and is given to a young composer of symphonic music.

The awards presented by the Comité du cœur are named after the author or composer who, during their lifetime or by will, assigned their rights or made a bequest to the Comité du cœur.

‘Receiving support from the Comité du cœur during such a complex period as the one we are currently experiencing is a source of encouragement and goodwill for a composer.’

— Augustin Braud,
composer, winner of the Claude Arrieu Award, 2020
